On January 14, 2014, Ambassador Jonathan Dean died of natural causes in Mesa, Arizona. He was 89 years old. His wit, wisdom, friendship, guidance, and example of selfless public service will be missed.
Ambassador Jonathan Dean had been an Advisor to the Global Security Institute since its inception. After decades of successful pubic service in the Department of State, Ambassador Dean shared his skills by helping many civil society organizations devoted to peace, security, nuclear non-proliferation and disarmament. GSI was but one of many recipients of his generosity. It is no exaggeration to say he was a true gentleman who addressed the weightiest of contemporary issues with grace and calmness.
For those who knew him, his legacy will be honored best by our efforts to serve as he did. In his backyard was a beautiful rose garden that he cultivated over many years. His home was fragrant because of this cultivation.
May our beloved friend, Jonathan Dean, be fully absorbed in God’s embrace of infinite love and grace.
