The Inspiration

“Nuclear weapons are unworthy of civilization.”

Senator Alan Cranston, Founder, Global Security Institute

Jane Goodall, Mahatma Gandhi, religions of the world — all inspire our view of the world. And all give us reason to contemplate the greater good, our obligations to the future generations, and the ethical imperative to rise, as a species, above the urge for violence, revenge and domination that has brought us to this absurd point, where we stand one button away from destroying ourselves and the entire playing field.

Senator Alan Cranston, the Global Security Institute’s founder, was also a profound inspiration for all those involved in GSI. The organization was founded on Senator Cranston’s moral insight, and his emphasis on the fact that our future depends upon advancing common global interests, diplomacy and governance, the rule of law, and non violent change. His book, The Sovereignty Revolution, articulates GSI’s vision in depth.
