The Acronym Institute
The Acronym Institute conducts research and publishes information on negotiations and verification of arms control, disarmament and related treaties and agreements. Their site also contains access to the Disarmament Diplomacy journal, the successor to Nuclear Proliferation News. The Brookings Institution
This center sets the standard for research on foreign policy. Their site has an excellent nuclear section, and be sure to look at the U.S. Nuclear Weapons Cost Study Project. The atomic audit is one of the most stunning sites on the web. It reveals the details of the $5.5 trillion in U.S. nuclear spending over the past 56 years. Center for Nonproliferation Studies
Based at the Monterey Institute of International Studies, CNS is the largest NGO in the U.S. focusing exclusively on nonproliferation issues. An excellent feature on this site is an annotated chronology of South Africa’s nuclear weapons program, pointing out the explicit link drawn between apartheid and weapons of mass destruction. As South Africa’s status as the only nation to ever possess and then eliminate its nuclear weapons remains a little-known bit of nuclear era history, this section is well worth a look.

International Physicians for the Prevention of Nuclear War
At the height of the Cold War, a group of Soviet and American doctors founded IPPNW to provide education about the medical consequences of nuclear war. For this effort, which reached millions with the message that nuclear weapons must never be used again, IPPNW received the 1985 Nobel Peace Prize.

Middle Powers Initiative
One of the four programs of GSI, the Middle Powers Initiative is comprised of eight international non-governmental organizations that are able to work primarily with “middle power” governments to encourage and educate the nuclear weapons states to take immediate practical steps that reduce nuclear dangers, and commence negotiations to eliminate nuclear weapons.
