Not only is Dr. Jane Goodall one of the world’s most influential woman scientists of modern times, she is one of the most important scientists of all time. Her studies of chimpanzees are without parallel in insight and influence, demonstrating that members of another species make tools, have personality, caring and kindness and even deep family ties. Her work with Roots and Shoots to educate millions of children the world over is a model of character building and substantive education.
I know another side of Jane’s passionate life in protecting and improving the world in aspects for which she is not so well known. She was with Senator Alan Cranston, Mikhail Gorbachev and me from the inception of the Global Security Institute (GSI) at the State of the World Forum in the 1990s. Since then, I have seen her consistent passionate advocacy for other species and children and for the sane moral uses of science, and particularly the control and elimination of weapons of mass destruction. I have witnessed and have been inspired by her insights at conferences at the United Nations, where she is a UN Messenger of Peace, at the Carter Center with President Carter, and even the United States Congress.
I have had the privilege of serving for years on the Board of Directors of the Jane Goodall Institute and continue to serve on its Board of Advisors as she does on the Board of Advisors of the Global Security Institute.
Her love and generosity come from the kind of heart the world needs today, a heart without borders. For that reason it is a great honor to celebrate her 85th birthday.
For a donation
of $250 or more, we are glad to share The Sovereignty Revolution, which has a central essay of extraordinary prescience by Senator Alan Cranston and responsive essays by Dr. Goodall, Mikhail Gorbachev, myself, and Jonathan Schell. The book will be signed by both myself and Dr. Goodall.
